Blizardpaw looked at the leaves with a questioning look. " What are these? What do they do?"

Dreamheart inspected the one that had landed on her nose. "Ash leaves," she meowed. "Chewed up, they make a liquid that stops pain." She nodded, satisified, then grabbed as many ash leaves as she could carry. After depositing the inside her den to be sorted later, she bounded back outside. "Anybody going to help me carry as many ash leaves as possible to my den?" she inquired, then wrapped her jaws around another heap.

" Id be glad to help!" Blizardpaw jumped up and picked up some poppyseeds. He ran into the den and placed them into a neat pile. When he came back he saw some herbs he did not recognize. " What are those?"

"What, the four-pointed star shaped leaves with gold edges or the five-triangle shaped leaves with the gold center? The four-pointed star-shaped leaves are ash leaves. The five-triangle shaped leaves are maple leaves. Maple leaves are very soft if they aren't allowed to dry up. If those are carried inside my den quick enough, they will make very good bedding for an injured or sick cat," Dreamheart meowed. She paused a moment, then continued. "They also have another quality-if they are burned in fire, their smoke is okay to breath. That's why I think we should make an escape route from the camp to outside with maple leaves so that we can follow the trail of breathable air in case of a fire." Actually, she hadn't told anycat else that yet, but she was thinking of proposing the idea to Breezestar. If, however, she needed somecat else to agree with her-say, Aspenbrook-to get Breezestar to consider her request, then she would need to tell her apprentice first to see what the young cat thought. ((One long sentence...)) The tortoiseshell's blue eye seemed calmer than usual, even a trace of sadness possibly caught in her expression. Memories, haunting her? Maybe...

Blizardpaw nodded. Maybe, if it was okay with Breezestar, he could help make the route! " Thats a wonderful idea!" He began to help with the herbs again.
